History

In 2007 White Sulphur Springs became an organized Main Street Program; a coalition of merchants, residents, clubs, churches, civic organizations and government in order to grow and sustain a viable and successful downtown. It is a volunteer driven non –profit organization who employees a part-time director. It’s mission is to revitalize, protect, promote and renew community spirit. Since inception, MSWSS has been very successful in its endeavors, creating an after-hours business event, Third Thursdays, and restoring the beloved WV Dandelion Festival in its first year. Main Street White Sulphur Springs has also awarded façade grants to several property owners, enhancing the appearance of downtown. Over $500,000 in grants have been awarded to MSWSS for beautification and recreation projects, including the west end streetscape and hike/bike trail.
Main Street White Sulphur Springs relies heavily on grants, sponsorships and its partnerships with the City of White Sulphur Springs, the WSS Rotary Club, WSS Lion’s Club, WSS Garden Club, WSS Girl Scouts, businesses and individuals. For instance, a covered gazebo by Howard’s Creek along the proposed hike / bike trail has been constructed; hanging flower baskets along Main Street and on the bridge are beautifully displayed each Spring; a town clock was constructed and beautifully landscaped around; a walking track and lighting for WSS Rotary Park; new welcome signage; street and stream clean-ups resulting in over 5 tons of trash; grand parades and so much more.
In 2013, MSWSS will continue its efforts in projects and events to generate a viable, pedestrian-friendly downtown that creates a destination for shopping, dining and entertainment that supports local businesses, residents and guests.
